I'm not sure if anyone posted this already, but near the end of PBN105 Sunday show, MCs NNN & Ky Duyen announced PBN106 will take place @ Planet Hollywood on the Labor Day weekend. I'm not sure if there's any info that was mis-announced, since that's 6 months from now. Perhaps TN is simply producing less of their PBN series, and release more of VietFace TV shows. Anyway, just want to share the info with you guys so you can plan early.

After going there for PBN98, PBN100, and PBN104, I think I will skip this one though. I didn't think the last one turned out well in terms of audiences size so not sure how this one will do.

That is very odd since there has only been 2 PBN shows, not counting the VIP...I'm hoping they could squeeze a smaller show in May-July...

tn is turing into asia. they gonna do less big shows and more small shows that are produced for their tv network.

piracy is just getting worse and worse. now you can go to youtube to watch the whole shows in 2 clips.

i don't mind that at all
but i mean, think about it.

themes are becoming scarce nowadays.

plus, each show is a notch up from the previous show which means set designs are needed to be suitable to today's standards, so does lighting, etc.
if they produce so many a year, how are they going to keep up w/ all the new equipment & technology & keep creating innovative ideas?
they'll end up having to reuse things (like how they are already)

there are reasons why the vmas, oscars & grammys are more highly anticipated.
they are usually grandiose & held annually/ONCE a year. b/c of that, big producers get to spill out all the big bucks for elaborate stunts and state-of-the-art stages.

if pbn started producing fewer shows, they'll be more extravagant and anticipated. plus, they'll be allowed ample time to think of more creative ideas and better/improve their products (like enhance their blu-ray features).

at this point when piracy is out of control, everyone should be appreciate the fact that they still have pbn to enjoy rather than expecting too much.

more extravagant, bigger shows, etc? aren't these too much to ask in this economic climate. it amazes me that tn is still producing shows that are bigger than previous ones. they must be working pretty hard on those sponsors.

Chu Ngan and Ky Duyen announced the show, but did not say that it will be PBN 106. I suspect that they will squeeze in 1-2 shows at Knottsberry in the interval. Keep in mind that the Planet Hollywood venue requires a year-in-advance reservation, and is the only show marketable to people in the Northeast.

it's time for tn to work with planet hollywood and use their online selling system. that would make a huge difference for concert goers. it would save time for everyone. and im sure tn would save tonnes of money by not having selling tickets over the phone or over the counter and of course commission as well. just work it out with planet hollywood and use their system.

and tn should sell ticket way more in advance. like at least 2 months before the show. if i were tn, i would start selling ticket for each show right after their previous show is held. eg if pbn 106 is held on july 1-2 then i would start selling pbn 107 on july 3.

I think it'd be worth trying out the internet ticketing system and decipher whether third or fourth shows are actually worth an investment. Lets face it, Thuynga's past system with ticket sales are pretty old fashioned. I'm sure that internet sales could insert another extra 'Planet Hollywood show' and you're looking at an extra million bucks from the tickets.

But I do agree with the idea of reducing the amount of shows each year. It just seems like the right thing to do. Plus, the element of anticipation is always half the fun.

AWESOME!!!!!! I have something to look forward to in Labor Day once again!!  However, if this is PBN 106, then I am kinda sad that TN has decided to just reduce the number of shows from average 4 to now 2. I know that costs must be very high to maintain the continued costs of producing extravagent shows and yet profits are dropping because of piracy.  The timing of March to September is the exact timing of PBN 104 to PBN 105 (September to March, six months). I believe the wait from 104 to 105 is very long, and it looks like we have to get used to it.

Well, you can't blame people for having some expectations, especially when there are many people who spends between $150 -> $800 for each ticket to see the show, and there are people who spends $25-$30 bucks on DVD/Bluray. Some expectations from certain people are ridiculous, but most of these "expectations" are what pushing Thuy Nga to make better shows. If everyone is just like you and be satisfied with anything Thuy Nga outputs, they probably can just reuse old arrangements and props for new shows, and you will probably applaud them for being smart in cost savings. If you think people just pay money for shows + bluray without having any expectations, will that make any difference to them giving those money to charity?

I don't doubt Thuy Nga is spending a lot of money and I am myself a fan, but I personally don't think they do that badly in terms of finances. For some simple calculations, if the # of audiences is as high as they claim (14k), for shows in Vegas, and each of them just pays $100 on average, that's already 1.4MM. However, the cheapest seats there is $88, and most seats are $150 or above, so the average should be even higher. The singers pretty much sing for free after they pay their commission from live shows (which you mentioned) before. If there's anyone that I feel bad for, that would be the singers. Usually they get paid for one taping as a package, which is probably offset by the amount they give TN for commission, AND then some of them have to perform in VIP Party FOR Thuy Nga VIP audiences w/o getting paid. I think they probably prefer to go sleep after 2 long shows, have dinner or just have a party of their own where they don't have to look pretty for the camera.

With two shows annually, I guess its fair to push Thuynga into making more refined and amazing shows. If it continues to be two shows a year, I'm assuming they'll want to vacate their shows every time for big audiences. Not as massive as Staples Center but maybe it'd be worth a try if internet sales show giant demand, they just need to advertise the sales concept well.

im sure everyone has expectations but some are reasonable and some aren't and that is the main point. if they tn is doing well financially from having those shows then why would they reduce the number of shows per year from 4-6 years ago to 2-3 these days?

be realistic here, the last show in vegas wasn't sold out. the number was around 10k according to marie to. 14k is an exaggeration from a few mcs to promote the show. and u should take into consideration that tn do give away lots of vip tickets to sponsors.

why would you feel bad for the singers? bc due to the fact they have to pay commission? don't you think it's even worse for them if they are not signed by tn? how popular would they be without much support from tn. of course paying no commission is better than paying but in general, it's worse if you are not being labeled as "thuy nga singer".

bottom line is that, things like decrease in number of shows per year, and taking singers' commission are just clear indication of financial difficulty. is tn in the red? probably not but one thing is guaranteed is that the profit margin is just getting slimmer and slimmer. if the trend is not reversed then sooner or later pbn will just go out of business like literally million of music productions around the globe.

given their economic situation, i wouldnt expect too much extravagance from their production after all they are no grammy or oscar; they dont get 20-30 mils in ad revenue. throw me a decent stage, i wouuld be happy about it; anything more then that would be a bonus. however, i still expect them to push the boundary in term of artistic values. i re-watched hue, saigon, hanoi and found it to be an amazing video. the program was well executed. if anythign that need to be pushed, that would be ideas, themes, executions, etc.

Not trying to boost anybody's hopes here but what if the whole matter of creating two shows this year is a matter of the build up towards a show in Australia? I'm not completely dismissing it although the chances are very slim. I'm merely just pointing out that for as long as Thuynga does two shows a year, funds will definitely accumulate over the year. Thuynga could even be pulling the strings of two shows for one year just for this occasion. Just a possibly guess. But hey, the Australian dollar being stronger, sending possibly hundreds of people over, heavy advertising, set designs etc etc. It is a financial disaster. Lets just hope that when the MCs casually say that there will be a show in Australia, they're not just talking about live shows.

You guys all have really really good points. :) but why can't we have 3 nice grand shows instead of 2? It's all very possible and it for the most part benefits everybody! and the fact that the MCs didn't announce that the Vegas one is PBN 106 makes me think they are giving the audience some time in advance to sell more tickets. It's genius! I just feel there's is going to be one more "filler" show before Labor day. But I just really hope it turns out to be this way, I already have a hard time waiting 3 months for each one to come out I can't image 6!!!!! Nonetheless I commend Thuy Nga on their recent improvements and hope they will continue strong <3

For some reason I really don't think this 2 big shows a year is gonna be a permanent thing. Lets not forget that VStar is starting up and for such a big project thats gonna be broadcasted on TV, I'm sure they want to spend as much time with it and developing it in order to make it a successful show. It is a 6 month competition so it's not too surprising that 106 is spaced out this much, with VStar releasing on DVD most likely in the middle of 105 and 106.

Also most likely they will do another VIP Party? So maybe they will release that at the end of the year and make it somewhat total 4 PBNs.
